February '25 (0 hours)

Happy Black History Month and happy Mardi Gras! As February normally does, this month FLEW by. Really, we made it through a unit and a half maybe with this short month. I truly enjoyed med pharm and principles this month. We had our neuropharm module which is very interesting to me. I received my undergraduate minor in psychology, mostly because I wanted to know more about neurological disorders and diseases, so this was right up my alley! I really enjoyed learning about strokes and cerebral vasculature in general. It was nice to have Dr. Mostany in class more. I feel like he really wants us to become critical thinkers. Not just to learn what is fed to us, but to make us hungry to go out into the world asking more questions and finding knowledge for ourselves. This helps me to stay motivated as this program comes to an end, as MCAT season is upon us, and as the city we live in slows down to celebrate Mardi Gras.

I didn't do any community service this month, but I have scheduled a ton for March. I really wanted to take my time to find opportunities that are not only enjoyable, but they either teach me something about New Orleans, or directly helping the community. I can't wait to share these experiences with you in the next blog. I will share bout my Mardi Gras experience so far! This weekend my favorite parades will roll, but as of now I've been to femme fatale and muses! Tonight I will likely go to morpheus. I am planning to host a barbecue tomorrow for Endymion. The past 2 years I've lived on this route and it's broadened what I used to believe the Mardi Gras experience to be. I'm surrounded by locals who celebrate with their families of all ages. My neighbors directly next door host the small "endymion" parade for the kids during the day. I like to call it the "bug parade". Everyone comes out dressed in yellow and dressed as different bugs. It's so bright and warm, it really helps me to understand what this time is really about and why the entire city is so adamant about giving people time to enjoy. Laissez les bons temps rouler, Let the good times roll, relax and slow down. In a world where everyone is constantly on go and thinking about the next things we have to do, New Orleans has taught me to stop, slow down, and really enjoy my life and the world around me. I will be forever grateful for my time here.
